Sometimes
I drive around for hours taking pictures out of the window of my car.
Occasionally I have help, and other times I drive down the same street
seven times in a row attempting to take a picture that isn't blurry, or
the wrong thing. Staple-covered utility poles, colorful buildings,
peeling paint, crumbling facades, weathered billboards, hand-painted
signs and murals, and posters and ads taped to windows and wheat-pasted
to walls appeared again and again and eventually became a new visual
language. My current work is layered, blistering and peeling, colorful
and collaged, and suggests the handmade and hand-altered energy of a city, the passage of time, decay and renewal.

HOLLY DAZE
I'll be spending the next 2 weeks with friends and family feeling holly jolly. In the mean time, look for my work hanging early January at the Small Hall Gallery between Magpies Bakery and the Glowing Body Studio in North Knoxville.
See you in 2014.

SECOND HARVEST
For the months of November and December, there will be an 8" x 8" show at the Small Hall Gallery between Magpies and the Glowing Body Yoga Studio on Central Avenue. All works are no larger than 8" x 8", no more than $100, and half the proceeds from the sale of artwork will go to the Second Harvest food bank. Now if that isn't a good deal, then I don't know what is.
Shop for yourself, or for holiday gifts. This little number could be yours for $50. Everybody wins.
